Michigan DL Mazi Smith faces felony gun charges stemming from October incident

Court records showed Thursday morning that star Michigan DL Mazi Smith is facing felony gun charges stemming from an event that occurred on October 7.
As for why it took so long to file charges, it’s unclear at this time. The specific details are also unclear as of Thursday, Dec. 1. Regardless, this does not bode well for Smith or the Wolverines moving forward.

The felony charge is punishable by up to 5 years in prison. It’s worth noting that Smith has played in all 12 games played this season despite much of the year having been played after this original October incident.
Michigan takes on Purdue for the B1G Title on Saturday at 8 EST in Indianapolis.
