Michigan had to go into SEC territory to find its latest running back commitment.

The Wolverines picked up a pledge from 3-star running back CJ Stokes on Saturday afternoon. Stokes is from Columbia, South Carolina, and has an offer from the Gamecocks as well as multiple other SEC and Big Ten programs.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Stokes is a 3-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 59 running back for the class of 2022.

He also has offers from Missouri, Vanderbilt, Colorado, Louisville, Penn State and West Virginia.

This is Michigan’s first commitment for the class of 2022 since April 20.

Overall, the Wolverines now have eight commitments for this cycle. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Michigan’s class ranks No. 23 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten.

Jim Harbaugh’s squad has already picked up commitments from six different states in this class: Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado, Illinois and South Carolina.

Stokes is listed at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds and attends Hammond School in South Carolina.
