Michigan has fired Matt Weiss as the team’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Weiss was previously placed on leave after it was revealed police were investigating computer access crimes.

The program released a statement from Athletic Director Warde Manuel:

“After a review of University policies, the athletic department has terminated the appointment of co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss. Consistent with university policy, we will have no further comment on this personnel matter.”

Austin Meek of The Athletic adds that Weiss was terminated for cause.

News broke of the computer access crime investigation earlier this week. At that time, University of Michigan police said in a statement that the department was investigating “a report of computer access crimes that occurred at Schembechler Hall during December 21-23, 2022.”

ESPN noted that the investigation may have started on Jan. 5:

An entry from the university police’s online daily crime log on Jan. 5 notes that police received a report about “fraudulent activity involving someone accessing university email accounts without authorization” at Schembechler Hall. It is the only report of police activity at the football facility in the past month.

Weiss tweeted his own statement Friday, saying he looks forward to putting the matter behind him and returning to football.
