Michigan football honoring family of Dametrius ‘Meechie’ Walker during Fiesta Bowl warmups
Michigan football has something special planned for the Fiesta Bowl. The Wolverines will be playing TCU.
The football world learned about the story of Dametrius ‘Meechie’ Walker, a former high school player from Michigan who was diagnosed with cancer. Walker lived out his dream of playing for the Wolverines by scoring a touchdown during practice at The Big House this offseason.
Unfortunately Walker passed away this season after a long battle with cancer. To honor Walker and his family, Michigan football wore shirts during Fiesta Bowl warmups with a patch in the middle that said “Meechie” with the number 45.

Michigan will be playing for more than just a chance to play in the national championship game on Saturday, as Walker’s family will be on the hearts and minds of everyone that had a chance to hear his story.
The Wolverines face the Horned Frogs with a chance to compete for a national title on 4 p.m. ET on ESPN.
