Michigan football’s numbers compared to last season show signs of potential return to CFP
Michigan is looking to not only repeat as B1G Champs but also as a representative in the College Football Playoff. Should the Wolverines be a favorite to make the final 4?
When looking a U-M’s numbers from 2021 to 2022, the program is miles ahead in nearly every category from a season ago. Sitting at 6-0, Michigan currently is averaging 4.5 more points per outing and is allowing 4.2 fewer scores.
💪 @UMichFootball is off to a 6-0 start for the second season in a row, but this time with an improved stat line 📈

This season, the Wolverines’ offense has done most of the heavy lifting. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy currently leads the FBS in completion rating (78.3%) while running back Blake Corum is leading the FBS in rushing touchdowns with 11. McCarthy, who ended up beating out 2021 starter Cade McNamara, has thrown 9 touchdown passes against 1 interception.
The return of Ronnie Bell has come as a blessing for the passing attack. Limited to 1 game last season, Bell has totaled 30 catches for 390 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Luke Schoonmaker has been the biggest riser on offense, recording 22 catches for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns. Both Cornelius Johnson and Roman Wilson have scored a team-high 3 touchdowns.
The Wolverines will play host to No. 10 Penn State on Saturday. Michigan will have currently 2 more chances to pick up ranked wins this year over No. 24 Illinois on Nov. 19, and No. 1 Ohio State on Nov. 26.
