Michigan-Illinois is one of three Big Ten games kicking off Week 7 of the college football season. The Wolverines-Fighting Illini can be found on ABC.

Michigan got out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to its running game and quickly got the ball back for its second possession.

The Wolverines started marching down the field and got to the Illinois 10-yard-line for a first-and-goal situation. Michigan then decided to throw the ball to fullback Ben Mason.

Which, yes, is odd. Michigan doesn’t typically throw it to Mason.

Wolverines QB Shea Patterson threw the ball just ahead of Mason, causing him to miss the catch. That didn’t stop Mason’s momentum and apparent hunger for contact.

Take a look as Mason goes on after dropping the pass to drill an Illinois defender in the head:

Mason got flagged for this and got a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Rightfully so.
