Michigan’s first basketball commitment of the 2021 recruiting class is a good one.

The Wolverines landed a verbal pledge from four-star small forward Isaiah Barnes on Wednesday afternoon. The Oak Park, Illinois native is ranked as the No. 26 small forward and the No. 106 overall prospect in the recruiting cycle. Barnes made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

“I would like to thank all of the coaches that have recruited me and poured their time and effort into me,” Barnes wrote. “With that being said, with much thought, I will be attending The University of Michigan to further my academic and basketball career.”

Barnes received 17 offers on the recruiting trail. He picked Michigan over offers from Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, TCU, Texas A&M and Wisconsin, among others.

Barnes stands 6-foot-6 and will bring great versatility to Ann Arbor. His commitment alone gives Michigan the 36th-ranked class nationally and the ninth-best in the B1G currently.
