Juwan Howard and company picked up a big win Thursday night, landing the first commitment for Michigan’s 2022 recruiting class.

The commitment comes from four-star point guard Dug McDaniel as he was in the middle of his official visit to Ann Arbor, according to Sports Illustrated. McDaniel cited the helpfulness of the staff and a feeling of being at home as reasons he committed:

“Michigan felt like home,” McDaniel told Sports Illustrated. “You’ve got the two DMV guys on the team, and they’re always giving great advice about the program. The staff was so welcoming, and the bond was natural.”

McDaniel went on to say that Howard let out a shout of elation when McDaniel committed:

“He just yelled, ‘Let’s goooo!’ right in the middle of the Crisler Center!” McDaniel said.
Listed at 5-foot-9 and 145 lbs., the Composite Rankings list McDaniel as the No. 14 PG and the No. 83 prospect nationally for the cycle. He is also rated as the No. 4 player out of Virginia for 2022.

Now that the Wolverines have their first commitment for the class, it will be interesting to see how it rounds out moving forward. Getting McDaniel is a good first step as Howard looks to keep things rolling after a regular-season B1G title in 2021.
