Michigan kicker Dominic Zvada grabs single-season program record in Week 5
Michigan kicker Dominic Zvada needed just 5 games with the Wolverines to set a single-season program record.
Entering Saturday’s game vs. Minnesota, Zvada was a perfect 5-for-5 on field goal attempts, and the former Arkansas State transfer was developing into a long-range threat for the Wolverines. Three of Zvada’s first 5 kicks of the season came from at least 50 yards out.
Halfway through the 3rd quarter, Zvada was called on again, this time from 53 yards out and Michigan holding a 21-3 lead. The kick was picture-perfect with plenty of leg, giving Zvada 6 made field goals to begin his Wolverine career and 4 from 50+ yards out.

Though we are just in Week 5 of the season, that is already enough for Zvada to claim a Michigan record. The program announced on social media he is the first kicker in program history with at least 4 made FGs from 50+ yards in a single season.

While that is a nice feather in Zvada’s cap, it’s the kind of record that is a double-edged sword. Ultimately, it means Michigan’s offense has been forced to settle for some long-range kicks regularly in the first few weeks of the season, but it also means Zvada can be relied on when those kicks are needed.
We’ll see how many Zvada can add to his tally this year.
