Michigan lands pledge from 4-star DL, key in-state prospect for class of 2025

Michigan is working on filling out the 2024 recruiting class, but recruiting for the future never stops. That is good news as the Wolverines landed a piece for the future Tuesday afternoon.

The commitment comes from Bobby Kanka, an in-state defensive lineman out of Howell, Michigan. He committed to the Wolverines over offers from Michigan State, Louisville, Kansas, Minnesota, Penn State, Tennessee and others.

In an interview with Sam Webb for The Michigan Insider, Kanka explained how he’s been eying Michigan from the start. After spending some time on his recruitment, he was ready to confirm a commitment to the Wolverines.

“It’s been Michigan since Day 1,” said Kanka. “It wasn’t really just a blink of an eye moment, I’ve kind of known for a year, 2 years. Ever since I really walked into the stadium I was like ‘I know I’m going here.’ …I didn’t want to wait any longer. It felt like home, I know it’s home, so let’s just do it and get it done.”

Kanka is listed as 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds and a 4-star recruit per the 247 Sports Composite. He’s the No. 32 DL in the country and the No. 4 overall player out of Michigan for the class of 2025. Kanka becomes the third player to commit to the Wolverines for the class of 2025.
