There’s one word that can best describe everything about Saturday’s game between Michigan and Michigan State: sloppy.

The weather, the game, the offensive performances on both sides of the ball. It really is the perfect word for the battle between in-state rivals — at least for this year.

It’s also the word that Michigan offensive lineman Patrick Kugler chose when describing how the Wolverines’ offense performed last weekend. He admits that it wasn’t an ideal performance and there are a lot of things to clean up before heading to Bloomington to play Indiana.

“It was just sloppy,” Kugler said according to 247Sports. “We played a sloppy game. I mean, everyone could see that. We just got to focus on tweaking the little things and make sure we’re ready for Indiana.

“We just got to focus, we just go to do better.”

Michigan moved the ball well at times against the Spartans, but five turnovers were devastating to the Wolverines’ chances of pulling out a victory. And once the rain came down, it was nearly impossible to head in the right direction.

The Wolverines are now 1-1 in conference play and need a win over Indiana to remain in the race in the B1G East. The Hoosiers are looking for their first conference victory of the season.

Saturday’s game between Michigan and Indiana is scheduled to start at noon ET and will air on ABC.
