Michigan president shares new statement praising community for strong response amidst adversity
Michigan president Santa Ono shared a new statement on Sunday recapping a chaotic week in Ann Arbor.
Ono thanked “countless members” of the Michigan community for their support as the program and university deal with the fallout of the Big Ten’s decision to suspend head coach Jim Harbaugh. Ono also commended the Wolverines’ football team for their response this weekend vs. Penn State.
Here’s the statement from Ono:
Countless members of the University of Michigan family have reached out to me over the weekend and I wanted to express my appreciation. Like any community, we face our share of challenges and adversity. There have been many such moments in our history. But as our team showed so clearly yesterday, we will respond to any challenge head on with a conviction to do better and to emerge even stronger. Go Blue!

Michigan defeated Penn State on Saturday on the road without Harbaugh on the sidelines. Harbaugh was suspended late last week by the Big Ten under the league’s sportsmanship policy amidst an investigation into an alleged sign-stealing scandal.
Michigan has filed a temporary restraining order to halt the punishment from the Big Ten. A hearing is scheduled for Friday.
Michigan is set to face Maryland on Saturday.
