Michigan QB, former 4-star prospect officially hits transfer portal
It was rumored that, after Dylan McCaffrey opted out of the 2020 college football season at Michigan, he would look to transfer out of the program. Now, that’s a reality.
Rivals.com reported on Thursday that McCaffrey has entered his name in the transfer portal. He will be a graduate transfer at his next destination, which means he’ll be immediately eligible for the 2021 campaign.
Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News reported that McCaffrey opted out before the start of the B1G season, which began on Oct. 24. She also mentioned that it was likely that the former 4-star quarterback would look to transfer .
McCaffrey was in the mix to land the starting job at Michigan in the 2020 season with Shea Patterson on the way out. Joe Milton ultimately won the job and Cade McNamara put up a strong fight as well, creating a crowded QB room in Ann Arbor.
During his career at Michigan, McCaffrey has served as a backup quarterback behind Patterson. Hs appeared in 13 games in two seasons, completing 18-of-35 pass attempts for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns without an interception. McCaffrey also accounted for 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
The Wolverines closed out the 2020 campaign with a 2-4 record, the first time the team has finished under .500 in the Jim Harbaugh era.
