Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy makes dazzling 50-yard throw during spring practice
Michigan’s future at the quarterback position is starting to look very bright.
The Wolverines brought in 5-star quarterback prospect J.J. McCarthy this spring, and he’s excelling so far in Ann Arbor.

That ball traveled about 50 yards through the air to fellow freshman Cristian Dixon.
McCarthy is currently in competition with two older players for Michigan’s starting job. Cade McNamara is back for another season, and Michigan also added Texas Tech transfer Alan Bowman this offseason.
It will be interesting to see if — or when — McCarthy’s raw ability will be able to overcome the experience of McNamara and Bowman.
McCarthy is the highest-rated quarterback that Harbaugh has ever recruited to Michigan out of high school. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he was the No. 24 overall player and the No. 2 pro style quarterback in the class of 2021.
Michigan opens its season on Sept. 4 against Western Michigan.
