Michigan’s primetime matchup vs Minnesota got off to a rocky star, but running back Zach Charbonnet made sure the Wolverines weren’t down for long.

After the Gophers blocked a punt and took a 7-0 lead, Charbonnet helped Michigan respond with a critical 70-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Here’s a look:

Minnesota is missing a starting linebacker tonight, so it’s possible that contributed to the coverage bust on the play. Still this was a massive response for a team that struggled out of the gate.

Charbonnet was excellent as a freshman in 2019, rushing for 726 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, he only went above 70 yards twice in Big Ten play last season.

If the Wolverines can keep making big plays like that, they should be able to separate from the Gophers.
