Michigan receives notice of potential disciplinary action from the B1G, per report
Michigan’s ongoing sign-stealing investigation has received another update as of Monday evening.
According to various reports that include Adam Rittenberg and Brett McMurphy, the university has officially received a notice of potential disciplinary action from the Big Ten.
Rittenberg explained this is an official step stated in the B1G’s sportsmanship policy.
Here is what that policy states:
In the event it becomes clear that an institution is likely to be subjected to disciplinary action, the Commissioner shall notify that institution or individual at the earliest reasonable opportunity. Under no circumstances shal the Commissioner comment publicly regarding either an investigation or disciplinary action without having first provided notice to any involved institution or individual.
McMurphy’s report cited sources that claim Michigan has received specific allegations from the B1G but no indication of what specific penalties could be administered. There is a reported deadline of Wednesday for Michigan to respond, but the B1G’s pursuit of penalties against the Wolverines or Jim Harbaugh is viewed as a “PR stunt” per McMurphy’s sources.
As was previously reported Monday, Michigan is prepared to legally fight any actions administered by the B1G. That legal battle could potentially block suspensions from occurring in 2023.

Just prior to those reports coming out, Michigan AD Warde Manuel announced in a statement he would be skipping this week’s CFP committee meetings in Texas. Manuel cited a need to remain in Ann Arbor to handle matters related to the ongoing investigation.
