Michigan has its next offensive coordinator, according to a report.

Per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Michigan will promote quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell into the role. Campbell was a big part of developing JJ McCarthy over the past year and served as Michigan’s interim OC in its win over East Carolina last September.

Campbell replaces Sherrone Moore, who was elevated to head coach to replace Jim Harbaugh last month.

Campbell, 37, does have some previous offensive coordinator experience. He served in that role for 2 seasons at Old Dominion before joining the Wolverines as an analyst in 2022.

Promoting Campbell does mean Michigan still has one more assistant role to fill this offseason. It’s unclear if Campbell will keep his QB coach title in addition to his offensive coordinator responsibilities or if he will solely serve as Michigan’s OC. If he keeps his QB coach duties as well, it would free up Moore and the Wolverines to hire an assistant coach at another position.

Michigan’s offense is facing quite a bit of uncertainty going into 2024. McCarthy is set to turn pro and Michigan does not have an obvious Day 1 successor on its roster. Jadyn Davis, a 4-star prospect in the class of 2024, has already arrived in Ann Arbor as an early enrollee.
