Michigan lost one of the most important keys to Big Ten supremacy on Friday.

Starting punter Tommy Doman is entering the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz. Doman was one of the highest-graded punters in the country, per PFF. He started in each of the last 2 seasons and will leave Ann Arbor with 1 season of eligibility remaining.

Doman punted 49 times this season for the Wolverines, averaging 42.6 yards per punt. His longest punt traveled 68 yards and he downed 17 of his attempts inside the opponent’s 20-yard-line.

Among qualified punters, he was top-10 nationally in average hangtime and ended the regular season with the 16th-highest punting grade. Of his 49 attempts, 22 triggered fair catch signals by the receiving team and only 12 were returnable.

Doman also handled kickoffs for the Wolverines this season. He had 37 touchbacks on his 59 attempts (62.7%).

He was the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week following Michigan’s win over USC on Sept. 23. He was also voted to the All-Big Ten Third Team by league coaches in 2023.

A native of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Doman made 31 career appearances across his 4 seasons with the program. He averaged 44.3 yards per punt with 18 punts downed inside the 20 during Michigan’s national title run last year.
