Michigan played its hated rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in The Game on Saturday. The Wolverines had won 3 in a row against the Buckeyes, last losing the rivalry game in 2019.
On Saturday, the Wolverines were huge underdogs against the Buckeyes and not many expected the Wolverines to keep it close, let alone win. The Wolverines didn’t get that memo, however, as the team escaped with a 13-10 win to make it 4 in a row over the Buckeyes.
This is the first time in over 30 years that the Wolverines have won 4 in a row over the Buckeyes. The last time that happened was from 1988-91.
The Wolverines won 3 in a row from 1995-97 and then won 2 in a row from 1999-00. Other than that, the series had mostly been all Buckeyes until this recent 4-game stretch.
On Saturday, the Wolverines asserted their dominance on the ground. The team managed to defeat the Buckeyes while accumulating just 62 passing yards. Kalel Mullings saved the day, rushing for 116 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Wolverine defense was smothering all afternoon long. Will Howard was held to just 175 passing yards and had 2 interceptions. The Buckeyes’ 2-headed monster at running back was held to just 67 combined yards. The Wolverines racked up 4 tackles for loss on the day and allowed the Buckeyes to convert just 6-of-16 on 3rd down.
Now, the Wolverines will finish the regular season with a 7-5 record. The Buckeyes will end with a 10-2 record and will be kept out of the Big Ten Championship Game if Penn State wins against Maryland.
