Michigan, Sherrone Moore reportedly turned down by prospective defensive assistant
Michigan coach Sherrone Moore had reportedly zeroed in on his next defensive backs coach. On Thursday, that candidate told him no.
According to a report from FootballScoop’s Doug Samuels, Houston Texans safeties coach Stephen Adegoke has turned down an offer to join Moore’s staff in Ann Arbor. He had several options on the table, Michigan included, but has elected to remain with the Texans, per Samuels.
Prior to joining Houston, he was a defensive quality control coach for the 49ers in 2022. He also spent a season as a defensive graduate assistant in Ann Arbor.
Moore is looking to replace Steve Clinkscale, who left his role as Michigan’s defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator last week to join Jim Harbaugh’s staff on the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to FootballScoop, Moore has already begun the process of moving on to other candidates to fill Clinkscale’s vacant spot on staff.
Fortunately for U-M, the key piece is already in place. The Wolverines have reportedly hired Wink Martindale from the NFL to serve as the program’s next defensive coordinator. (That move hasn’t been officially announced by the school yet.) Martindale has already added one piece to his defensive staff — linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary from Tennessee.
