Michigan will have a very special honorary captain for its Week 2 matchup against Texas.

New York Yankees legend and Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer Derek Jeter will be at the Big House on Saturday as an honorary captain. Head coach Sherrone Moore confirmed that news to Brad Galli on Monday morning:

Jeter didn’t play college baseball, but he was committed to Michigan before beginning his pro career after the 1992 MLB Draft. He was selected with the No. 6 pick in that draft and ultimately decided to turn pro rather than play baseball in Ann Arbor.

Jeter grew up in Kalamazoo and attended Kalamazoo Central High School as a multi-sport athlete. He went on to have an incredible career with the Yankees, winning 4 World Series titles and recording over 3,000 hits along the way. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020.

Michigan is a 6.5-point underdog on Saturday against Texas. This is a matchup between 2 College Football Playoff participants from last season. While the Wolverines went on to win the national title, Texas is favored in this matchup because it returns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers and a number of other key pieces.

Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
