Michigan will not play Friday night games, per AD Warde Manuel
Michigan will not entertain Friday night games, even as the Big Ten continues to move forward with its plan to play games across Friday night throughout the new media rights deal for the conference.
Recently, athletic director Warde Manuel made an appearance on the “Conqur’ing Heroes” podcast to discuss many items, and he revealed his message to the B1G and television executives has been “absolutely not” when it comes to Friday games. The Wolverines are 1 of 3 B1G teams (Ohio State and Penn State the others) to avoid playing on Friday night this season.
“We are not having a Friday night game,” Manuel said. “I’ll just leave it at that.”
Manuel would also say “Absolutely, absolutely not to Friday night” during the podcast.

Games on certain Fridays have been commonplace in college football. Nebraska and Iowa traditionally play their season ending game on Black Friday. Week 1 in college football also features games throughout the Labor Day weekend, including games play on that Friday.
However, the B1G has recently expanded the schedule throughout the season to feature Friday night games. Week 2 will feature 2 Friday night games in the conference, and there will be a total of 11 Friday night games between Week 2 and Week 13 of the season.
As for Michigan, it will be interesting to see if Manuel’s stance holds up in the new 18-team era of the league or if the Wolverines are eventually forced into a Friday night game.
