The Jim Harbaugh rumors returned at the end of the 2021 season. As has become customary at the end of every college football campaign, the Michigan head coach was mentioned as a potential candidate for multiple jobs at the NFL level.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported earlier this month that Harbaugh “might be tempted” to leave Michigan for a job in the NFL. Most notably, the Michigan head coach was rumored to potentially have some interest in a gig with the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to KHOU 11 News Houston, Harbaugh said “it’s a little more enjoyable this year compared to the rumors last year,” when asked about the NFL rumors.

Harbaugh is referencing rumors about his job being in jeopardy following a 2-4 campaign in 2020. Many thought Michigan might begin looking for a new leader after such a tumultuous year.

The critics were silenced in 2021. Michigan finished the year with a 12-2 record and Harbaugh led the Wolverines to their first win over Ohio State in a decade. UM went on to win a B1G title and earn a bid in the College Football Playoff.

Because of Harbaugh’s ties to and success in the NFL, his name will likely always be tied to jobs in the pro ranks. For now, it seems like Harbaugh is content with his position in Ann Arbor.
