Michigan’s o-line loaded with NFL prospects per Senior Bowl Executive Director

Michigan’s offensive line is the best unit in America, coming off back-to-back seasons as the Joe Moore Award recipient. What makes that scary is this year’s line for the Wolverines could be the best — and deepest — to date.

With some key pieces leaving from the 2022 offensive line, Michigan dipped into the transfer portal to replenish the unit with veteran pieces. Drake Nugent and Myles Hinton joined the Wolverines from Stanford while LaDarius Henderson made the move to Ann Arbor from Arizona State.

Those pieces would help bolster any line in the country, but Michigan’s offensive line was not exactly empty. That trio of transfers joins holdovers Trevor Keegan, Trente Jones, Zak Zinter and Karsen Barnhart for the 2023 season.

Just how good is that group of 7 heading into the fall? Jim Nagy — Executive Director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl — believes all 7 have a “very good chance” of getting an NFL opportunity, either as a draft pick or UDFA. Nagy also teased all 7 will be on the 2024 Senior Bowl Watch List that will be released in August.

With such a unit on hand, it’s fair to wonder if any unit in the country can knock off Sherrone Moore’s group as the Joe Moore Award winner in 2023.

With a lot of attention on Blake Corum’s return and JJ McCarthy’s growth as a starter, it’s worth revisiting that a lot of Michigan’s attack begins in the trenches. The stronger the o-line, the better chance the Wolverines have of getting an improved McCarthy and an even more potent attack this fall.
