Michigan now knows who it will face in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Texas Southern defeated Mt. St. Mary’s 60-52 in the 16-seed play-in game at Assembly Hall on Thursday night, the first game of this year’s event. The Tigers advance and will play No. 1 seed Michigan on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in Mackey Arena.

Mt. St. Mary’s was in control at the half, leading 30-20. But Texas Southern put together an 11-0 run out of the locker room to take the lead at 31-30. The two teams continued to trade punches throughout the second half, but the Tigers pulled away late.

Leading the way for Texas Southern was John Walker III, who scored 19 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. The Tigers also got double-digit production from Jordan Gilliam, who added 12 points.

Texas Southern is now on a 10-game winning streak entering Saturday’s game with Michigan. The Tigers are 17-8 on the season.
