ESPN’s Chris Fowler was first to report it during Saturday night’s Michigan State-Michigan game, and a source confirmed with the network that Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight will likely miss the remainder of the season.

According to ESPN, Speight suffered three broken vertebrae two weeks ago during the first quarter in Michigan’s game against Purdue. While falling to the ground, the Wolverines quarterback suffered an awkward hit and hasn’t been back on the field for the maize and blue.

It was also reported that Speight will be reevaluated in six to eight weeks and it’s unknown whether or not surgery will be necessary for the injury.

Speight completed 54.3 percent of his passes this year, throwing for 581 yards and three touchdowns for the Wolverines. He had just two interceptions.

John O’Korn replaced Speight as Michigan’s starter during Saturday’s rivalry game against Michigan State but struggled mightily, completing just 16-of-35 passes and tossing three interceptions.
