Mike Sainristil and the Michigan defense were able to deliver some big-time moments in the game against Maryland. When it was all said and done, the Wolverines finished with 3 takeaways and also forced a safety while the special teams unit delivered another safety.

Sainristil was the architect for 2 of those turnovers, picking off Taulia Tagovailo twice in the win. His first one came around midfield and set up a touchdown drive for Michigan, and his second one came late in the game with the Wolverines clinging to a lead.

Asked about that performance after the game, Sainristil said the team was not looking ahead to Ohio State and wanted to send a message in Week 12:

“We just wanted to make sure that we send a message out all across the board,” said Sainristil. “Offense, defense, special teams. We were never looking too far ahead, we were just focused on Maryland.”

Now, Sainristil and the team can turn their attention to The Game and next week’s matchup with the Buckeyes, but it will be a challenge. Michigan will enter that showdown without Jim Harbaugh and hope that Sherrone Moore can lead the team to a win.
