Nick Patterson, brother of new Michigan QB Shea Patterson, is a 3-star tight end in class of 2020 from the San Antonio area.

As he inches toward his college decision, he’s picked up offers from teams like UCF, Memphis, Florida Atlantic and more.

However, he recently picked up a much bigger offer, and it came through a surprise from his brother. Nick Patterson and his dad Sean recounted Shea’s surprise for 247Sports:

“We were actually doing an interview for Fox,” Patterson said. “Midway through the interview I was listing my offers and at the end my brother was like, ‘hey you missed one.’ I honestly, truly thought I missed one. But there were only seven, so I don’t know how I would have missed one. “

“Shea just said, ‘you’re forgetting one man,’” Patterson’s dad Sean added. “Nick looked all confused (laughter). Shea said, “Michigan. Go Blue!’ Then everybody started clapping. Nick was like, ‘no way!’ It was really cool. It will air Sunday. My wife didn’t even know. I looked over there and she had tears and was like, ‘what the heck?’ I turned my head around (and got emotional) a little bit myself.”

The younger Patterson took to Twitter shortly after receiving the offer to express his gratitude:

According to the 247Sports composite, Patterson is the No. 12 tight end in the class of 2020 and the No. 67 overall recruit from the state of Texas.

If Patterson continues to play well as a junior and senior, Michigan won’t be the only big-time program to make him an offer.
