Notre Dumped: Michigan sends 'break up' note Notre Dame's way after blowout victory
Their fifth-largest win against a top-10 opponent in the Associated Press era, the No. 19 Michigan Wolverines thwarted the No. 8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 45-14, on Saturday at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.
Outgaining Notre Dame, 437-180, the Wolverines racked up 303 yards on the ground. Spearheaded by sophomore Hassan Haskins’ 149-yard effort, four Michigan players ran for at least 30 yards.
While he only attempted 12 passes, senior Shea Patterson made the most of his limited workload, completing six of his attempts for 100 yards and two scores.
Don Brown’s defense caused havoc all evening long and held Irish senior quarterback Ian Book to an 8-25 showing for a career-low 73 yards.
Following the convincing win, Michigan Athletics poked some fun at Notre Dame on Twitter:
Dear @NDFootball, we need to take a break. We’ve been doing this for a while now and we need our space. We’re glad we could end on good terms, thank you for not being defensive. Let’s keep in touch and maybe we’ll try again in 14 years if you’re still independent. 👋

With the Wolverines’ victory serving as the back-end of a home-and-home, these two programs will not meet again until 2033.
Saturday was the last scheduled meeting between the two historic powers, but the schools announced a future series prior to kickoff.
Looking to win back-to-back games, Michigan (6-2) will travel to College Park to face Maryland (3-5) on Saturday (12:00PM ET, ABC).
Notre Dame (5-2) will host Virginia Tech (5-2) at 2:30PM ET on NBC.
