The rumor mill is already spinning.
Ever since Jim Harbaugh took over at Michigan in 2015, there’s been speculation that he’d bolt for the NFL nearly every year. Those rumors will start to swirl again after odds were listed about his future in Ann Arbor.
SportsBettingDime has placed 12-1 odds that Harbaugh will not be the Wolverines’ head coach for the 2018 season. While those chances might be a little peculiar considering there’s been virtually no NFL talk thus far this season, those odds were the lowest any coach had at this point. Names like Butch Jones, Bret Bielema and Mike Riley all had higher odds to not return to their respective jobs.
Here’s the full list of odds released earlier in the week:
- Butch Jones, Tennessee: 1/9
- Bret Bielema, Arkansas: 2/1
- Mike Riley, Nebraska: 2/3
- Jim Mora, UCLA: 1/1
- David Beaty, Kansas: 1/1
- Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M: 3/2
- Lovie Smith, Illinois: 8/1
- Gus Malzahn, Auburn: 10/1
- Jim Harbaugh, Michigan: 12/1
The rumors about Harbaugh bolting for the NFL are relatively quiet right now but those conversations could resurface once the season ends. Last year, the Michigan head coach was said to be a candidate for a few different jobs in the professional ranks but, obviously, nothing materialized.
