Paul Finebaum reacted to the latest news and reports stemming from the NCAA’s sign-stealing investigation at Michigan. Appearing on Sunday’s version of the “Matt Barrie Show,” Finebaum did not hold back on what he referred to as a “very sleazy” story involving Jim Harbaugh’s program.

Finebaum also expects the investigation to be a “subplot” of the first College Football Playoff rankings reveal, but he doesn’t expect to learn much from the committee on Tuesday night.

“I think you just nailed what is the subplot of Tuesday night. The committee chair will be asked about it, and you know they’ve already got the typed-up answer,” said Finebaum. “And I doubt it’s going to tell us anything we don’t already know.

“As far as Michigan, this is a very sleazy, disgusting story. There are leaks up there coming out left and right and every one makes the school look worse. That’s on one ledger, but we’re also talking about a time in college football where people shrug their shoulders at everything.”

Moving forward, all Finebaum really wants to know if this investigation “sticks” to Harbaugh impacts the 2023 Playoff in any way, but the analyst does not see that as the likely outcome.

“All I’m interested in now is can any of this stick, does any of this really matter and quite frankly I don’t think it does,” Finebaum admitted. “I don’t think any of this sticks to Jim Harbaugh, I don’t think it’s going to influence or impact the College Football Playoff, and that’s what we’re interested in.”

Finebaum expects the Michigan program to distance itself from Connor Stalions as a “rogue staffer” in the coming days. And while he does believe Harbaugh will be “dinged” for the matter, he doesn’t expect it to be a serious blow for the Wolverines.
