Paul Finebaum predicts 'very easy answer' on Jim Harbaugh's future coaching plans
Paul Finebaum believes Jim Harbaugh’s final decision on his future in coaching will be an easy one.
During Wednesday’s broadcast of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Finebaum explained that Harbaugh has already accomplished his goals while leading his alma mater. However, the added aspect of the NCAA’s sign-stealing investigation makes it a clearer picture.
“He’s already accomplished what he set out to do, and that’s make Michigan relevant again. 3 straight Playoff appearances and the national title game is relevant, but that’s not the real reason (for leaving),” said Finebaum.
“He’s got the NCAA right around the corner, and people will say well hasn’t the NCAA already been there? Yeah, we know the narrative. He was suspended twice this year, 6 games. But the NCAA is looking at all of these allegations in one box, and there’s speculation that Jim Harbaugh could get suspended AGAIN next year.”
With all that taken into account — and the fact that multiple NFL franchises are likely to covet the head coach — Finebaum believes Harbaugh is as good as gone following Monday’s national title game.
“It’s pretty simple: If you have a shot at 4 NFL franchises, and they’re coveting you. On the other hand, you’re facing the NCAA after accomplishing pretty much everything you’ve set out to do, it’s a very easy answer,” Finebaum predicted. “He is leaving Michigan after next Monday night.”
