Report: Ex-Michigan DC Don Brown expected to land head coaching job
It looks like a return is in the works for Don Brown, but he will not be returning to Ann Arbor.
The long-time DC for Jim Harbaugh was replaced in the offseason after 5 seasons leading the Wolverines defense. Though Brown’s units produced some strong seasons, some letdowns in key moments lingered over his tenure.
Brown has since been leading the defense as the DC for Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch during the 2021 season, but a report indicates Brown is set to get an FBS head coaching job. According to Pete Thamel with Yahoo! Sports, Brown is getting set to take the vacancy at UMass.
Thamel reports an announcement is expected early in the week:
Sources: UMass is taking the final steps to make Arizona DC Don Brown the school’s next head football coach. A deal is being finalized, and an announcement is expected early this week.

Brown does have ties to UMass, having previously served as a DC with the program and then as a head coach of the Minutemen from 2004-08. Brown posted a 43-19 record while UMass was still in the FCS.
