One of Juwan Howard’s key acquisitions this offseason might wind up bypassing Ann Arbor for the NBA Draft.
The player is DeVante’ Jones, a guard out of Coastal Carolina who committed to the Wolverines last month. The reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year and a two-time All-Sun Belt contributor, Jones is a veteran player that has shown an ability to do it all and score at an elite level in college.
Though Jones is still committed to Michigan, he is also testing the NBA Draft waters. According to a report from JD Shaw, Jones has also earned an invite to the NBA’s G League Elite Camp later this month.

The camp provides draft prospects an opportunity to compete in five-on-five games and strength and agility drills for scouts, coaches, and executives.
Should Jones impress at the camp and remain in the draft, it would be a big blow to Michigan’s outlook for the 2021-22 season. Jones appeared in 81 games (77 starts) over three seasons with Coastal Carolina. He averaged 19.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.8 steals and shot 49% from the floor.
