Michigan OL starter, member of 2019 recruiting class enters transfer portal
A young starter for Michigan’s offensive line has reportedly entered the transfer portal.
According to Clint Buckley with 247 Sports, redshirt freshman Zach Carpenter has entered the transfer portal as of Thursday. Carpenter made his first start on Nov. 21 and also started the following game on Nov. 28 against Penn State. Carpenter also confirmed his decision on Twitter:
I want to thank coach Harbaugh, coach Warriner and the rest of the staff for giving me an opportunity to compete at the University of Michigan, as well as my team mates for pushing me every day. Now its time for a new opportunity. Looking forward to what the future holds! pic.twitter.com/Y19xdW6kgB

Unfortunately, Michigan did not play this past weekend and canceled Saturday’s game against Ohio State. Now, it appears Carpenter is looking at his options moving forward.
Carpenter was a 3-star recruit for the 2019 recruiting class. He was rated as the No. 33 guard nationally and No. 20 player out of the state of Ohio for the class.
As a recruit, Carpenter committed to the Wolverines over Cincinnati, Duke, Arkansas, and Clemson, among many others. Should Carpenter leave Ann Arbor, it will be interesting to see where he heads next.
At this point, entries into the portal are not great but there is not much that could make this season any worse for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
