A second Michigan quarterback has entered the transfer portal since the end of the 2020 season.

247Sports reported on Friday morning that walk-on quarterback Ren Hefley has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal. The rising junior joins Joe Milton as the second quarterback to depart Ann Arbor since the season ended.

Milton entered the 2020 season as starting quarterback at Michigan, but lost the job at the end of the year to Cade McNamara. He committed to Tennessee after hitting the portal.

Hefley spent two seasons with the Wolverines, joining the program in 2019. He did not see any game action in either season.

By utilizing a redshirt year and with the NCAA’s blanket waiver for all fall student-athletes, Hefley will still have four years of eligibility to use at his next destination, should he choose to leave Ann Arbor. He could still return to Michigan if that’s in his best interest.

Michigan ended the 2020 season with a 2-4 record.
