Michigan is getting a little thinner at wide receiver.
Wednesday, 247Sports reported that Wolverines wide receiver Oliver Martin has entered his name in the transfer portal. He would have been a redshirt sophomore for Michigan in 2019.
An Iowa City native, there are rumors that Martin could return to his hometown to play at Iowa, though there has been no confirmation or announcement regarding a potential destination.
Martin was a member of Michigan’s 2017 recruiting class and redshirted as a true freshman. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, the receiver played in all 13 games for the Wolverines and totaled 11 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown. He also had one rush for 11 yards.
Out of high school, Martin was a four-star wide receiver who was listed as the top prospect out of Iowa. He was listed as a top 30 receiver and was one of the top 200 players in the cycle overall.
While Martin was expected to have a significant role in the Michigan offense at some point in his career, the Wolverines are still in good shape at the position. UM returns Donovan Peoples-Jones, Nico Collins and Tarik Black this fall.
