Ronnie Bell addresses possibility of working on special teams following injury in 2021

Ronnie Bell is coming to the field in 2022 after missing much of 2021 with an injury. Now, he’s gearing up for the big year he was destined for last season.
Last season, Bell had a huge 76-yard touchdown catch in the season opener and another ridiculous one-handed grab that was waved off with a penalty. Unfortunately, his season ended after he went down during a solid punt return.
Despite getting injured on the punt return, it does not look like Bell has any lingering concerns about playing on special teams. According to Angelique Chengelis with the Detroit News, Bell said he wants to return punts in 2022 and is working toward that goal.
Ronnie Bell said today he wants to return punts this season: “I feel like I’m comfortable being a punt returner. I feel I’m good at being a punt returner, so that’s something I want to do.”

Bell’s lone punt return last season went for 31 yards and he has a career average of 9.5 yards per punt return. Whether or not the coaching staff lets Bell play on special teams is something that remains to be seen.
The good news is that Bell did say he is feeling good and healthy at this point of camp. Hopefully, he doesn’t have any setbacks and can play a key role in the offense.
