Chase Winovich is a pretty recognizable figure in Ann Arbor. He was the face of Michigan football last season and was a fan favorite inside the Big House.

Apparently, Winovich’s popularity in Ann Arbor and his history of success on the field wasn’t enough to get him access to Michigan’s spring game on Saturday. The defensive lineman was blocked from entering the game from a security guard outside the stadium.

Really.

Winovich wrote about the situation on Twitter, though he seemed to find the whole thing more amusing than frustrating.

“Got denied access to the Spring Game today,” Winovich wrote. “Mitch from security had that field SECURED.”

It’s good to know that security is taking its job seriously. With such a high-profile program with one of the biggest stadiums in college football, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Still, it’s pretty amusing that Winovich wasn’t allowed access to the spring game considering how well he represented the program throughout his career. Maybe those security guys are focused more on what’s happening outside the stadium than inside.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Well, unless you’re Chase Winovich trying to attend a spring game.
