Sherrone Moore was not in a forthcoming mood at his Monday press conference.

As for star tight end Colston Loveland, he could very well be on the field on Saturday for Michigan’s showdown against USC in Ann Arbor. Or he might not be.

The tight end’s status for the Wolverines’ Big Ten opener is in doubt as the leadup to the Week 4 collision begins. The head coach would not commit either way regarding Loveland playing or not playing against the 11th-ranked Trojans.

Loveland left last Saturday’s victory against Arkansas State with an apparent arm injury.

“We’ll see what the doctors say,” said Moore during his weekly Monday press conference. “So just let them handle that, right?”

The junior TE has 19 catches for 187 yards and 1 touchdown so far in 2024. He had 8 catches in each of the 18th-ranked Wolverines’ 1st 2 games and had 3 catches last Saturday before being forced to leave with the injury.

Loveland had 45 catches for 649 yards and 4 touchdowns last season, helping Michigan capture its 1st national championship since 1997. He was also named 1st-team All-Big Ten in 2023.

In Loveland’s absence on Saturday, backup Marlin Klein had a team-leading 43 yards on 3 catches, and true freshman Hogan Hansen caught a 9-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter that helped Michigan finally put the game away.

Klein and Hansen might be needed again on Saturday with Loveland’s status up in the air at this point.
