Sherrone Moore isn’t worried about the narrative that Michigan is incapable of throwing the football against Ohio State.

The head coach of the Wolverines has heard for a while now what the Wolverines can and can’t do. But that hasn’t stopped Michigan from winning the last 3 installments of The Game.

On Monday, the head coach was asked about the need for Michigan to find explosive plays against the Buckeyes, something that has been in short supply this season. While he did not disclose any of his plans, Moore took a shot at the narrative he’s heard before when it comes to The Game.

“I can’t tell you what we’re going to do, but I think every year we go into that game, people say we can’t throw it, and all of sudden there are throws,” cracked Moore. “And it’s like oh all of a sudden we can throw it, or we can’t run it. So really all we’re going to do is go prepare and not worry about anything else. Put the best game plan we can together and go try and win.”

In reality, Michigan has only unleashed a serious passing attack in 1 of the past 3 versions of The Game. That came in 2022 when the Wolverines threw for 278 yards with some explosive deep balls before opening up the running game late.

Outside of 2022, the passing attack has fallen short of 200 yards in the other 2 games during the winning streak. Last year the offense was especially stagnant with just 338 yards despite a win, but it could be even tougher this year.

Michigan is averaging just 299.7 yards of offense through the first 11 games of the season, and that includes just 140.1 passing yards. Now, the Wolverines must put their offense up against Ohio State, owner of the best total defense in the country this season while allowing 241.7 yards per game.

We’ll find out if Moore has any tricks up his sleeve to try and unlock the offense on Saturday.
