The big news on Monday came out of Ann Arbor, when Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that John Beilein was leaving Michigan and had agreed to a five-year deal to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Beilein had been at Michigan since the start of 2007 season and had turned the Wolverines into one of the top B1G basketball programs in the country. The news that he decided to leave UM after over 30 years of coaching at the collegiate level was shocking to most.
Here’s how people reacted to the Beilein news on social media:

Beilein going to the NBA is great news for any Big Ten team that isn’t Michigan.

Imagine, a year ago, if someone told you Greg Mattison and John Beilein would be coaching in Ohio.

This is how good John Beilein was at Michigan. And it doesn’t account for his attitude or character either. He will be missed by all of us who covered him. And I’d bet the Cavs will be winning sooner rather than later https://t.co/8XwITDKseh

Well deserved opportunity for Beilein. Perhaps he could’ve won a natty in Ann Arbor. But you have to think he accomplished everything and more at Michigan. It’s a surprise, no doubt, but Beilein gave U-M everything he had (and then some)
I’m sure he’ll leave it in good hands. https://t.co/KyGkXSLb4r

John Beilein to the Cavs
Good for him
He’s literally won at every level, wish him nothing but the best
Timing puts Michigan in a tough spot.. won’t be surprised if they go the interim route, elevate Chris Hunter to an assistant coach

Beilein is responsible for taking the @umichbball program to national elite status again. What a run he has had in Ann Arbor. Two national title games. A number of NBA draft picks. Fundamentals. Development. Clean, ethical program with high character. https://t.co/LaK3mAx5cq
