Michigan’s 2022 recruiting class just got a little stronger.

Wednesday, the Wolverines received a verbal commitment from 4-star wide receiver Tay’shawn Trent, a native of Eastpointe, Michigan. He became the seventh prospect out of the 2022 class to pledge to Jim Harbaugh’s team and is currently the third-highest ranked recruit to join the group.

Trent posted a video on Twitter to make his announcement. He had also been considering offers from B1G programs Michigan State and Indiana, as well as Kentucky and West Virginia outside the conference.

According to 247Sports, Trent is listed as a 6-foot-4, 205-pound wide receiver. He’s ranked as one of the Top 10 players out of Michigan, coming in at No. 7. He’s also listed as the No. 40 wide receiver and the No. 281 player overall in the class.

During the recruiting process, Trent has received 15 offers. The schools he left out include Akron, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Louisville, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, Toledo and West Virginia.

From 247Sports recruiting analyst Allen Trieu:

High points the ball well and out-bodies and out-muscles defensive backs for position. Does an excellent job of getting up in the air but also being aware of his feet along sidelines and backs of end zones. Generally good body control. Not a speed demon, but does show ability after the catch. At the least, will be a big time red-zone weapon and a guy who can play outside or go to the slot because he is fearless in traffic.

With Trent’s commitment, Michigan jumps into the Top 10 of the 2022 national recruiting rankings, coming in at No. 9. The Wolverines also currently sit at No. 3 in the B1G, behind Ohio State (No. 1) and Penn State (No. 7).
