Stephen A. Smith predicts CFP National Championship: ‘Expect a thriller’

Stephen A. Smith sees Monday’s CFP National Championship coming down to the wire.
During Monday’s broadcast of “Get Up,” Smith predicted the Michigan vs. Washington matchup to produce “a thriller.” He ultimately sees the Wolverines pulling out on top but does not see a particularly low-scoring game playing out.
“I expect a thriller. I don’t think it’s going to be a low-scoring game. I could see a 31-28 outcome, somewhere along those lines. I’m going with Michigan to win this game,” predicted Smith. “I think their defense is elite but Washington’s offense is elite, led by Penix and three wideouts who can make some noise for you, and the best offensive line in college football.”
As for the key to the game, Smith sees a battle at the line of scrimmage when the Huskies have the ball. While Washington does have the best offensive line in football, he believes the Michigan defense can still generate a pass rush similar to what the unit displayed against Alabama.
“It really comes down to the line of scrimmage and whether or not Michigan’s defense is going to be able to put pressure on Penix and really thwart whatever he is trying to do… Can you be able to put up some points on Michigan? I think Washington will be able to, but I also think that Michigan will make its presence felt, particularly when it counts,” Smith explained. “Any defensive line that bum rushes and beats down Alabama, I’m not going to believe they can’t do it to Washington.”
