Cesar Ruiz couldn’t contain his emotions on Thursday night. When the center out of Michigan heard that he was heading to New Orleans, the tears of joy and happiness began streaming.

Ruiz was the lone player from Michigan selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, taken at No. 24 by the New Orleans Saints. Labeled as a late-first-round to early-second-round prospect, Ruiz’s dreams became a reality on the first day of this year’s draft.

When the camera panned away from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and into Ruiz’s home, the former Wolverine was overwhelmed with emotion. Rightfully so.

Below is the video of Ruiz’s name being called and his reaction to learning he’s headed to New Orleans:

Ruiz was considered to be one of the top, if not the best, centers in this year’s draft class. He played in 36 games while at Michigan, making 31 starts in his college career. He started in all 26 games each of the last two seasons.

Now, Ruiz heads to New Orleans to add depth and skill to an offensive line responsible for blocking for one of the best quarterbacks the league has seen, Drew Brees.
