Tom Brady provides spot-on assessment on rise of penalties in football
Michigan legend Tom Brady is entering his 21st season in the NFL, so he’s definitely witnessed the evolution of the sport.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback has been much more candid since departing the stuffy confines of the New England Patriots’ culture.
The last example is Brady’s takes on the way football is now being taught and the rise of penalties.

“The one thing about football that has changed over the years… is it’s not being taught the right way,” Brady said. “A QB should only throw the ball to certain places because your receiver is in danger of getting hit.”
Brady provided an example of when he squared off against one of the greatest linebackers ever.
“When I played against Ray Lewis, I wouldn’t throw the ball over the middle of the field because he would go after you and hit receivers and knock them out of the game,” Brady said. “And now, every hard hit by the defense is a penalty, so I feel like they penalize defensive players for offensive mistakes. ”
The one penalty that Brady is in favor of is enforcement to protect the legs/knees of defenseless receivers.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion spent four seasons at Michigan before famously not getting drafted until the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft.
