Tom Brady roasts Baker Mayfield over idea he wasn't fun to play with in Tampa Bay
Tom Brady spent the final 2 seasons of his legendary NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning Super Bowl LV with the team for his seventh and final championship. After Brady retired (for good) after the 2022 season, the Bucs turned to Baker Mayfield, who had the best season of his career in 2023.
Brady was back at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, calling the Bucs’ Week 4 game against the Philadelphia Eagles with Kevin Burkhardt for FOX. And Burkhardt brought up some interesting comments from Mayfield about the Bucs’ current culture compared to when Brady was with the organization.
“They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring the joy back to football for guys who weren’t having as much fun,” Mayfield was quoted as saying.
Brady had a pointed response.
“There was a mindset of a champion that I took to work every day,” he began. “This wasn’t daycare. If I wanted to have fun, I was gonna go to Disneyland with my kids.”
“I feel like there’s more in there to say,” Burkhardt prodded.
“There’s a way to approach this game, and it’s with the with the right mindset, and (to) try to push each other outside of our comfort zone. Great teammates do that,” Brady continued, mentioning former teammates like Rob Gronkowski and Mike Evans. “There’s high expectations for us. We gotta make sure we go out there and deliver.”
Brady was known as one of the most ruthless competitors and hardest workers in the NFL during his career. So it’s only natural he’d take exception to Mayfield’s comments, and needless to say, he made his feelings crystal clear.
