Too much confidence? Michigan OC Josh Gattis tweets the 'blueprint is out' to beating Ohio State
Having confidence in players and scheme is extremely important for a college football coach. Michigan offensive coordinator Josh Gattis certainly doesn’t lack any of that — and that’s a good sign.
But there is such a thing as too much confidence. And perhaps Gattis is dabbling in that end of the pool right now, too. At least that might be the case based on a recent tweet the Michigan OC fired off recently.
While there are no team activities currently happening, coaches are still digesting plenty of game film and working on new schemes and play-calls that they may find effective for next season. When Gattis was looking at film of Michigan’s 56-27 loss to Ohio State last season, the second-year offensive coordinator felt a little more confident in how the Wolverines could defeat the Buckeyes in 2020.
So much so, in fact, that he took to Twitter to suggest that Michigan beat itself last fall and that the “blueprint is out” on the Bucks.
“Corona[virus] may limit us to work from home….but don’t think we’re sleeping,” Gattis wrote. “2019 is over but the lessons learned live on! 2020 we won’t be so kind to beat ourselves. The BluePrint is out! We have only [one] thing on our mind!”

That kind of confidence is a promising sign from Gattis — but tweeting it out after an eighth-straight loss to the Buckeyes last season may not have been the smartest move. Don Brown learned that the hard way this past season.
Before Michigan and Ohio State met last season, the Wolverines defensive coordinator said of the Buckeyes “they better be careful. We’re hitting our stride now, too.” OSU has poured it on Michigan on the scoreboard each of the last two seasons.
Ohio State didn’t need any additional fuel to keep Michigan out of the win column, but they’ve just received a little more motivation for the 2020 matchup, which will be played in Columbus.
