Urban Meyer was pleased with Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy’s performance against Indiana in Week 6.

Michigan is a top 5 team and McCarthy’s leadership on offense has helped the team remain undefeated into Week 7. McCarthy will look to have another big performance for Michigan this week.

In a segment on Big Noon Kickoff, Meyer explained why McCarthy is ready for an important game against Penn State:

“He’s got it all: quick release, arm strength. Last week against Indiana you can see the comfort in the pocket. Great read, quick release. Here’s his athleticism, extends the play with a completion.”

Meyer also predicted that McCarthy will need to step up his game in order to lead Michigan past Penn State. Meyer believes that McCarthy has not had to win a game for the Wolverines yet and thinks this will be the game to do so.

“He hasn’t had to win a game yet through the first five games, I think he’s gonna have to win the game today,” said Meyer.

McCarthy has passed for 1,152 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 1 interception in 6 games. In last week’s win over Indiana, he threw for 304 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

Michigan’s game against Penn State will take place at 12 p.m. ET on FOX.
