WATCH: Controversial whistle negates Michigan TD, leads to Shea Patterson fumble

Michigan is in a tough battle early, and there is already some controversy going on.
Army came out fighting early on against Jim Harbaugh’s squad and scored first. However, the Wolverines came back and quickly tied it up with a short run from Zach Charbonnet.
Right after the touchdown, it appeared Michigan had swung momentum squarely in its favor. The Wolverines forced a fumble that was quickly scooped up and returned for a touchdown.

Unfortunately, the officials ruled that Josh Metellus’ knee was down when he recovered the fumble. Replays appeared to show he was up with his knee off the ground when he established possession, but it was not a reviewable play.

On the ensuing possession, Michigan QB Shea Patterson was sacked from behind and fumbled the ball away. He never felt the pressure from his blindside on the play.
It is already Patterson’s second turnover of the day against the Black Knights:
